The Story
My Journey to Canada
Before coming to Canada, I had already built a career in Human Resources in Vietnam. I understood recruitment, talent development, and employee relations. However, after becoming an international student in Canada, I quickly realized that experience alone was not enough to break into the Canadian job market.
Local experience, communication style, resume structure, and cultural expectations all played a significant role. I experienced firsthand how capable professionals can struggle—not because they lack skills, but because they lack clarity on how the Canadian hiring system truly works.
Determined to rebuild my career the right way, I pursued further education in Canada and earned my Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Human Resources Management from Thompson Rivers University. I later obtained my Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation to strengthen my professional credibility within the Canadian market.
Through structured preparation, strategic networking, and continuous learning, I successfully secured a full-time HR role with a global organization in Canada.
After establishing my career, I founded Joe Hoang Career Consulting to help international students and newcomer professionals navigate the same transition more confidently and strategically.
Today, I combine professional HR expertise, real-world recruitment experience, and lived immigrant experience to provide practical, structured guidance—so others can build their careers in Canada with clarity, confidence, and direction.
